New Study Uncovers Mode Of Action Of Enzyme Linked With Several Types Of Cancer
Scientists at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) of the Universitç© de Montrç©al have discovered a key mechanism used by cells to efficiently distribute chromosomes to new cells during cell multiplication. Published in the journal Molecular Cell, the study is the first to demonstrate that this mechanism relies on the polo kinase, an enzyme implicated in several cancers. Inhibiting this mechanism could be key to developing effective therapies to treat cancer.

Researchers of the Department of Neuroscience and Health Sciences of the University of Almería and Hospital Torrecárdenas are carrying out an assessment of the physical neuropsychological characteristics of children born before 32 weeks" gestation or whose weight is lower than 1500 grams -very premature-. The main aim of this project, coordinated by M Dolores Roldán Tapia, from the UAL, is to accurately define the origin of brain damage, so as to stimulate the affected area early thus causing the adequate cognitive and motric development of the individual.

Meridian Bioscience Receives FDA Clearance For New Rapid Campylobacter Test
Meridian Bioscience, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIVO) announced that it has received FDA clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a new rapid test for Campylobacter, ImmunoCard STAT!® CAMPY. This new test provides fast and accurate detection of Campylobacter bacteria, one of the most common causes of diarrheal illness and the most common bacterial cause of foodborne illness in the United States. Approximately 20 million stool culture tests are conducted each year in the U.S. to detect the illness, known as Campylobacteriosis. Campylobacter is most often transmitted by poorly cooked poultry or person-to-person contact.

Agendia Opens CLIA-Registered U.S. Genomics Laboratory

Agendia, a world leader in molecular cancer diagnostics, announced the opening of its U.S. clinical genomics laboratory in Huntington Beach, CA. The laboratory is fully-licensed and compliant with the Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments (CLIA) as administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition to opening its U.S. cancer genomics laboratory, Agendia has over the past months made several key additions to its domestic-based senior executive team. The team consists of Dr. Richard Bender, Chief Medical Officer, Mr. Daniel Forche, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mr. Alan B. Carter, Vice President of Global Business Development, and pathologist Dr. Chynel Henning, Laboratory Director. Currently, Dr. Bender serves as an expert reviewer in oncology for the Medical Board of California, co-Editor of Anti-Cancer Drugs, an international journal on anti-cancer agents, and as a clinical instructor in medicine at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. Mr. Forche brings more than 18 years of sales, marketing and commercial leadership experience in the diagnostics arena. Prior to joining Agendia, Mr. Forche was the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Insight Health Corporation, a national leader in diagnostic imaging services. He also served as Vice President of Marketing at US LABS, an industry leader in cancer diagnostic and genomic testing services, and has held sales and marketing management roles at Ventana Medical Systems (now Roche) and Abbott Laboratories.
