Successful Disease Management Programs Can Play Role In Health Care Reform
A study of the award-winning Behavioral Pharmacy Management Program (BPM) shows the private-public Medicaid partnership program has helped improve patient care while saving eight states almost $95 million in behavioral health pharmaceutical costs. Lilly funds the program, which is designed and run by research firm Comprehensive NeuroScience, Inc. (CNS) at the sole direction and guidance of state Medicaid departments. The BPM, which has been executed in more than half of the states, has won a variety of national awards, including the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Science and Service Award, URAC Silver Award for Best Practices in Consumer Empowerment and Protection, American Psychiatric Association Bronze Achievement Award and Disease Management Association of America Gold Award.

Link Between Depression, Suicidal Thoughts and Later Parental-Mandated Bedtimes For Teens
Earlier parental-mandated bedtimes could help protect teens from depression and suicidal thoughts by lengthening sleep duration, according to a research abstract presented at SLEEP 2009, the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.

Individuals At Risk For Developing Colon Cancer Identified By Researchers
A new study identifies a group of individuals at increased risk for developing colon cancer and holds the promise for developing new tailored cancer treatments. The study in this week"s issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) is by Sanford Markowitz, M.D., Ph.D., the Markowitz-Ingalls Professor of Cancer Genetics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and oncologist at the Ireland Cancer Center of University Hospitals Case Medical Center, and colleagues.

GDC Council Meeting - Thursday 11 June 2009

The next meeting of the General Dental Council (GDC) will take place on Thursday 11 June 2009 in the Harvey Goodwin Room, Church House Conference Centre, Dean"s Yard, Westminster, London, SW1P 3NZ from 10:30am. Key items to be considered at the June meeting: - The Chief Executive"s Annual Report will be presented by Duncan Rudkin. - Annual Reports from the Education Committee and the Finance and Human Res Committee will also be delivered. - Progress towards a new, fully appointed Council of the GDC is continuing with consideration of the process for the election of the Chair. There will be a question and answer session at the start of the meeting, to give members of the public an opportunity to find out more about the issues on the agenda. This will start at 10:30am and is done in an open forum format with no pre-selection or pre-ordering of questions.
